The Police Department works closely with the City's Human Resources Department to recruit candidates for a career with the Missouri City Police Department. The Department offers two primary hiring tracks:
- Track 1 is for state certified officers who have a current active license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or candidates who will receive their TCOLE license within 30 days of the next Entry-Level Police Officer Examination date.
- Track 2 is for police cadets who must have a four year degree, be a veteran of the U.S. military with at least two years of full time continuous military service, or be a full-time employee with the City of Missouri City.
The next examination will be held on December 8, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. at the following location:

Check-in begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:45 a.m.

All applicants must successfully complete and submit:
- an online application with the Missouri City Human Resources / Organizational Development Department (HR); and
- the Civil Service Commission Entry-Level Police Officer Employment & Examination Application. The completed Entry-Level Police Officer Employment & Examination Application must be submitted via email to the Civil Service Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applicants must complete and submit both the HR application and the Civil Service Commission Entry-Level Police Officer Employment & Examination application at least 10 days before the next examination date.
Applicants not disqualified from testing, will receive an invitation for examination from the Civil Service Director. The invitation will confirm the examination date, time, and place. It will also contain a Personal History Statement packet for applicants to complete and sign and then submit during check-in on the examination date.
In order to move on in the application process, applicants must achieve a passing score of at least 70% on the written examination. If an applicant served in the United States armed forces, received an honorable discharge, and makes a passing grade (70%+) on the written examination, the applicant may be eligible to have five points added to their examination grade. To be eligible for these points, applicants must submit proof of their honorable discharge by providing their DD Form 214, at check-in on the examination date.
Applicants who receive a passing written examination grade must then be able to successfully complete the following screening components:
- Physical ability examination;
- Rowing test;
- Interview board;
- Firearms qualification; and
- Comprehensive background investigation.
Applicants’ passing written exam score and any applicable military points, will determine their ranking on an eligibility list. The eligibility list will be effective for 12 months, unless exhausted earlier. Applicants who do not pass the above screening components, will be disqualified from appointment to the entry-level police officer position.
Applicants who pass the written examination and the above screening components, must then complete a polygraph exam, a medical and drug screen exam, and psychological exam.
